Seminar “The Community Within the Art”

La Candela Teatro y Comunidad
This visit was divided into two parts. An implementation seminar, which means that we were going to put into practice everything we had seen and learned in the other mobilities, and a study visit to complete the one we did in Latvia in April 2022

Implementation seminar “The community within the art” was the last mobility of participart KA2 project, and was held in Valladolid, SPAIN, from 4th to 10th october 2022

It engaged 5 participants from each involved organization: Stranaidea (IT), Kalnciema quarter (LV), La Candela Teatro y Comunidad (ES) and, the hosting organization,  Fundación Splora (ES).

We started the last mobility of the project with great enthusiasm. Excited to be able to return to the partners and also excited to be able to organize it ourselves, Splora Foundation. It is always a lot of work to organize a seminar together with a study visit but it is also very exciting to be the hosts and to welcome with all our affection the partners of Stranaidea, Kalciemas and La Candela Teatro y Comunidad, with whom we have been working and sharing very good experiences for so long.
This visit was divided into two parts. An implementation seminar, which means that we were going to put into practice everything we had seen and learned in the other mobilities, and a study visit to complete the one we did in Latvia in April 2022, which was a real boost for the participants of Splora, as it opened our eyes to many possibilities of improvement and advancement in our foundation.

For the implementation seminar we focused on the neighbourhood of El Pinar de Antequera and the former members of the now defunct Círculo Campestre, who were located in the same place where Splora Foundation is now. We wanted to show them through participatory installations what the Círculo Campestre once was, what it meant for the area and what it had become. We also wanted to give them the opportunity to reflect on what this municipal space can become and offer to the inhabitants of the city. We were visited by some members of the Circle, including its last president, and volunteers from Splora, as well as some other people interested in the activity.

We also made study visits to several entities related to theatre in Valladolid and citizen participation. It was very interesting to visit Andén 47 and get to know not only their dance school and their facilities, which can be rented, but also the project of residencies for young artists that they offer to support those who want to make their way in this very complicated profession. We also visited ImproValladolid, a theatre school and company. It was a very inspiring visit in which some of the members were able to exchange impressions with their director about theatrical improvisation techniques. And finally we had the great opportunity to show our members the association Pajarillos Educa, an entity that works in one of the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods of the city trying to open doors and give new options to young people and children with academic support activities but also through sports, leisure activities and employment workshops.

This has been a seminar full of hard work, but also a lot of emotion. We are now finishing the project and that fills us both with joy for the work well done and the learning acquired and with sadness for knowing that it is coming to an end. We would all like it to continue a little longer, but now it’s time to be practical and keep doing things well.

See you in other projects! Let´s continue boosting youth and communitarian participation within the ART!
